Mattress To Go’s Beducation® Founder Jeff Scheuer Pens New Article Sleep-Geek.com About Mattress Warranties
A series of articles about mattress myths from Mattress To Go and Beducation® creator Jeff Scheuer is being featured on the mattress industry leading website Sleep-Geek.com.
Shelby Township, MI – October 20, 2017 – Jeff Scheuer, owner of Mattress To Go and creator of Beducation®, the nation’s premier online video resource for mattress education, has penned another article that is now featured on Sleep-Geek.com, the retail mattress industry’s leading web site.
“I’m honored to again have been chosen to write a small series of articles about mattress myths for the Sleep Geek website,” stated Scheuer. “Sleep Geek is the leading website for the education of mattress retailers in America and they promote educated, objective advice. The staff at Sleep Geek wanted someone with experience in the retail industry but also someone with an educated background regarding mattress design and construction, so the fit was perfect for this series of articles de-bunking mattress industry myths. This is the fourth article in that series, and deals with the myth that a long mattress warranty equates to a higher quality product (Spoiler alert: it doesn’t).
(Article appears below.)
Uncovering the Myth: The Longer the Warranty, the Better the Mattress
A warranty is a guarantee against defects, and has no relationship to the durability, quality or comfort life of a mattress. Manufacturers know that consumers place an inordinate amount of importance on warranty length, so they will provide longer warranties on many of their products and use these longer warranties as marketing points.
We’ve all seen instances where a manufacturer or licensee was in a competitive situation, and to make their product stand out they increased their length of warranty coverage. So how exactly did this increase the quality of the product to the consumer?
A better option would be for a manufacturer to replace some lower quality foams with better materials, such as replacing 3 lb. memory foam with 5 lb. memory foam. This provides the consumer with a longer expected comfort life and actual value. They sleep on the foam inside of the mattress, not the paper upon which the warranty is printed. The gradual loss of comfort from a mattress is not covered under a warranty, so focus more on showing your customers mattresses that use higher quality materials, and then the issue of needing to use a warranty will be moot.
