Shelby Township, MI – December 20, 2009 – Mattress To Go of Shelby Township recently continued their tradition of supporting the local community by donating a new king mattress set to U.S Army SPC Alex Knapp of Macomb Township.
United States Army SPC Alex Knapp is a 23-year-old Iraq veteran who lost his legs when the vehicle in which he was riding was struck by an improvised explosive device near Baghdad on March 14, 2008. A native of Shelby Township, Knapp returned home this September after recovering from his wounds.
“We are honored to be able to donate this mattress set to Alex,” stated Jeff Scheuer, owner of Mattress To Go. “I had been following Alex’s story and the house that Homes For Our Troops was building for him. I read recently that the house was ready for occupancy, so I phoned Alex and asked if he needed a new mattress. He replied that he had just visited another local retailer and had put money down on a bed set, so I told him to cancel that order and let us provide him with a new mattress for free. He came in that same day and picked out his new bed and we had it ready for his move-in on December 20. Alex is an exceptional young man and this is the least we can do to assist him as he moves into his new home.”
